We have the largest market share in Singapore and the second largest in Malaysia1, and are one of the leading electrical products, IT products and furniture retailers in Singapore and Malaysia. Our Group has an operating history that spans more than 35 years in Singapore and more than 25 years in Malaysia. We operate 70 stores that cover more than 1 million sq. ft. of retail space2.
We currently have four categories of store formats – Megastores, Superstores, Departmental stores and Small-format stores – to cater to different needs and locations. Recently, we re-launched ‘eCourts’ in Singapore. With this online sales platform, we believe that we are the only established electrical, IT or furniture retailer of scale in Singapore to offer a complete online shopping solution.
In Singapore, we have a total of 13 stores – one flagship Megastore, eight Superstores, one Departmental store and three Small-format stores – with a total retail floor space of 392,626 sq. ft2. The majority of the stores are strategically located in suburban shopping malls or in stand-alone locations in suburban catchment areas, where there are relatively high population densities and easy access to public transport. In Malaysia, we now have a total of 60 stores across Peninsular and East Malaysia, with a total retail area of more than 850,000 sq ft.
Over the next two-to-three years, we plan to grow our store footprint by an average of six stores a year in Malaysia and an average of one store a year in Singapore. In addition, as we own intellectual property rights to the “Courts” brand in 17 Asia-Pacific countries, we plan to expand our retail footprint to Indonesia, starting in 2014.
We differentiate ourselves with a unique business model that leverages on our retail business by offering in-house credit facilities. “Courts Flexi Schemes” allow participating customers the flexibility of paying for their purchases by instalments over a period of up to 60 months.
With a dedicated team of 695 full-time employees in Singapore and 1,261 in Malaysia3, we are committed to “make aspirational home products easily affordable.” Over the years, we have therefore been able to build strong brand recognition and establish a large and loyal customer base. As at March 31, 2012, we have 1.2 million members in our “Home Club” loyalty programme and more than 273,000 customers under our “Courts Flexi Schemes.” Of these schemes participants, 83.9% in Singapore and 68.3% in Malaysia were repeat customers.
