About Courts

We have the largest market share in Singapore and the second largest in Malaysia1, and are one of the leading electrical products, IT products and furniture retailers in Singapore and Malaysia. Our Group has an operating history that spans more than 35 years in Singapore and more than 25 years in Malaysia. We operate 70 stores that cover more than 1 million sq. ft. of retail space2.

We currently have four categories of store formats – Megastores, Superstores, Departmental stores and Small-format stores – to cater to different needs and locations. Recently, we re-launched ‘eCourts’ in Singapore. With this online sales platform, we believe that we are the only established electrical, IT or furniture retailer of scale in Singapore to offer a complete online shopping solution.

In Singapore, we have a total of 13 stores – one flagship Megastore, eight Superstores, one Departmental store and three Small-format stores – with a total retail floor space of 392,626 sq. ft2. The majority of the stores are strategically located in suburban shopping malls or in stand-alone locations in suburban catchment areas, where there are relatively high population densities and easy access to public transport. In Malaysia, we now have a total of 60 stores across Peninsular and East Malaysia, with a total retail area of more than 850,000 sq ft.

Over the next two-to-three years, we plan to grow our store footprint by an average of six stores a year in Malaysia and an average of one store a year in Singapore. In addition, as we own intellectual property rights to the “Courts” brand in 17 Asia-Pacific countries, we plan to expand our retail footprint to Indonesia, starting in 2014.

We differentiate ourselves with a unique business model that leverages on our retail business by offering in-house credit facilities. “Courts Flexi Schemes” allow participating customers the flexibility of paying for their purchases by instalments over a period of up to 60 months.

With a dedicated team of 695 full-time employees in Singapore and 1,261 in Malaysia3, we are committed to “make aspirational home products easily affordable.” Over the years, we have therefore been able to build strong brand recognition and establish a large and loyal customer base. As at March 31, 2012, we have 1.2 million members in our “Home Club” loyalty programme and more than 273,000 customers under our “Courts Flexi Schemes.” Of these schemes participants, 83.9% in Singapore and 68.3% in Malaysia were repeat customers.

About Hope for Our Children Campaign

The Hope for Our Children Campaign is a collaboration between the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and Courts Malaysia (Courts). The campaign aims to engender understanding that cancer can be prevented by making conscious decisions about the life that we lead.

The campaign tagline, “Cancer Prevention Begins with a Healthy Lifestyle” also aims to enlist the support of children by empowering them with the knowledge that healthy lifestyle habits adopted early in life can make a positive difference in reducing the risk of cancer later in life. Simple steps like applying sunblock, avoiding smoking and second-hand smoke, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, and avoiding processed food help to prevent cancer and other chronic diseases as well.

In support of the campaign, images captured by premier photographer Kid Chan, show the moments shared between cancer survivors and their family members and sending the message that cancer does not signify the end of life’s journey. There is a high rate of survival for cancer patients especially when detected early.

These images will be displayed on donation boxes, postcards, posters and buntings distributed at all Courts 50 stores nationwide, and “Walk for Hope” Walkathons will also be organized at selected Courts retail outlets for fund-raising and as a way to engage members of the public. The campaign will culminate in a charity dinner event to raise more funds for the cause – the donations will help to fund more NCSM activities including the second stage of the campaign which includes a school outreach programme.
The school outreach programme, which will kick off in 2011, hopes to increase awareness among students that healthy lifestyle habits can help prevent cancer while providing recognition for active student clubs.

  Courts brings cheers to KLGH
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, Courts Bhd recently organized a refurbishment project for Kuala Lumpur General Hospital's paediatrics ward. The project involved a new paint job for the playroom's internal and external walls and then, jazzing up the place with stickers of cheerful and fun characters to create a mural. Little touches such as smaller-sized stickers mounted on cabinets also further brightened up the place, which Courts then furnished with shelves, a storage cabinet and 10 sets of children's desk and chairs and a variety of toys.
